The Glastonbury festivals first began in 1970 .Officially known as the annual Glastonbury Festival for Contemporary Performing Arts, the pageant is located near the small village of Pilton in Somerset. At first people only needed to pay one pound for the ticket which also included free milk from the farm.

This festival is described as the biggest greenfield festival in the world. It normally lasts for about 3 days and features rock music, dancing, comedy, theatre and circus. Other types of music played may be, alternative rock, India rock, Punk Rock, reggae and folk music. The festival is very dependent on the weather. If it rains, the ground turns into a sea of mud and there is chaos. You can see people dancing in the muddy field happily.Feel strange? The tickets of this year were sold out within 3 days. But the founder of the festival donates a great deal of money to charities. What is more, at the festival there is more and more emphasis on being friendly to the environment.

One of the most impressive part of this fastivals are the tents. Most festival-goers would stay in the tents.and experience camping life. Any abandoned tents found there will be donated to the "Give Me Shelter" campaign. At the festival site, all energy is from solar and wind power.
